We believe that corporations are part of the solution for climate change and a key factor in the proliferation of wind energy.
In recent years, the wind industry has witnessed an upswing in demand from what Vestas considers Carbon-Conscious Corporations, companies that are actively investing in and procuring renewable energy but whose core business is not power generation. These companies are taking an active role in the renewable energy space for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to CO2 emission reductions, securing energy supply, hedging against energy price volatility and sustainability branding.
Going with wind
A company’s choice of energy and how it is procured present great opportunities for business in terms of brand equity and bottom line. By working in partnership with Vestas, the world leader in wind energy, corporations can enhance brand and financial returns through continued investments in wind energy. Launch of CREX and CGWS in London and New York
Vestas is committed to being a driver in the corporate renewable energy agenda. In 2011, we presented the results of the Global Consumer Wind Study and in partnership with Bloomberg launched the Corporate Renewable Energy Index (CREX) – these two efforts are two sides of a coin. We learnt from the consumer study that consumers demand more transparency about the energy used to make the products consumers buy and will reward brands that are perceived as more environmentally friendly – and CREX gives corporations the opportunity to become part of an index that exults energy transparency and ranks corporations based on their use of renewable energy.

Corporate Renewable Energy Index [CREX] 2011
Produced in partnership with Bloomberg, this is the most comprehensive analysis of global corporate renewable energy consumption ever undertaken. This pioneering index provides transparency in the energy use among some of the world’s largest corporations.
CREX, which can be found on the Bloomberg Terminal, provides crucial information about how corporations are contributing to our transition to a low-carbon society. It lists both absolute figures and relative percentages of corporate renewable energy consumption for electricity, and includes a breakdown by renewable energy source.

Global Consumer Wind Study 2011
This groundbreaking study of 31,000 consumers in 26 countries worldwide maps public perceptions of climate change, climate friendly brands, and how these affect consumers’ purchasing decisions.
The study, commissioned by Vestas and conducted by TNS Gallup, gives fascinating insights that enable corporations to understand consumer perceptions about climate change, renewable energy and how these relate to global brands.

The power of transparency
The result from Global Consumer Wind Study 2011 reveals that 79% would perceive a brand more positively if the main source of energy was wind, 65% would prefer to buy products made with wind energy and 50% would even pay a price premium for a products based on renewable energy. If 25% of the world’s largest corporations’ electricity consumption came from wind, it would be equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of Australia, Switzerland and Ireland combined. This will further conserve 600 billion litres of water, or the annual recommended drinking water for 643,000,000 people compared to if it was produced with water-intense fossil fuel-based electricity.
