Research and innovation

At Vestas, our research is state-of-the-art. We’re continuously looking for different solutions and materials that will bring even more value to our customers and lower the cost of energy, both today and in the future. Here are some examples of our research:

Stealth research

Together with one of our partners, we are exploring stealth technologies for wind turbines. Some sites (certain offshore ones, for example) are not currently suitable for wind turbines because they would interfere with radar systems. Stealth technology could help open up these sites for use. In our most recent test, a V90 turbine equipped with a stealth rotor successfully reduced radar reflection by approximately 99 percent.
 

Floating foundations

We’re constantly looking for ways to improve offshore wind power plants. Floating foundations is one way to achieve that. Together with a Research Centre, we are researching floating foundations suitable for water depths of over 30 metres.
